Same Bombshell. New Knickers.
Eight years ago, I started Bombshell Bakes.
There have been cakes, competitions, extraordinary people, questionable decisions, a fair amount of buttercream and more than a few moments when I've wondered what on earth I was doing.
And now, eight years later, Bombshell has a new pair of knickers.
Don't worry. She's still the same girl underneath.
Eight years, several thousand eggs and a few surprises
When I launched Bombshell Bakes in November 2018, I knew I wanted to make beautiful things. Cakes that made people stop, look twice and, ideally, forget their manners for a moment.
What I couldn't have predicted was quite where it would take me.
From wedding cakes and extravagant celebrations to corporate events, edible sculptures and the occasional television appearance, Bombshell has had some rather interesting adventures.
There have been awards, wonderful clients, extraordinary commissions and creations that have tested both my patience and the structural integrity of cake.
There have also been late nights, spectacular learning curves and the sort of conversations with inanimate objects that are probably best left undocumented.
But through it all, one thing has remained the same.
I've never wanted to make just cake.
A little more art. A little less ordinary.
Over the years, I've realised that what I love most isn't simply baking something delicious.
It's the creating.
Taking an idea, a personality, a memory or something completely ridiculous and turning it into something edible.
The tiny details. The unexpected textures. The moments when something that began as a slightly questionable thought finally comes together.
And sometimes, the moment when it doesn't, and I have to work out what on earth to do next.
That's where the magic lives for me.
So Bombshell is evolving into something that feels much closer to the way I've always wanted to work.
A Cake Atelier.
A place for edible art, beautiful celebrations, imaginative commissions and the occasional flight of absolute nonsense.
Not everything will be sensible.
Frankly, I'd be disappointed if it were.
Same heart. Different wardrobe.
This isn't about pretending the last eight years didn't happen.
Quite the opposite.
The Bombshell you might remember is still here. The creativity, the indulgence, the personality and the belief that cake should be an experience, not simply something you cut into slices.
But the wardrobe has had a rethink.
The new Bombshell is a little more romantic, a little more artistic, perhaps a touch more grown-up.
Perhaps.
There are new collections to explore, familiar favourites with fresh possibilities and some rather peculiar characters beginning to make themselves at home.
I'm not entirely sure who's in charge of those last ones.
And what happens next?
More stories, for a start.
I want to share more of what happens behind the finished photographs. The ideas, the experiments, the craftsmanship and the occasional disaster narrowly avoided.
There will be new creations, old favourites, behind-the-scenes adventures and a few things that may require some explanation.
Or possibly shouldn't be explained at all.
Because after eight years, I'm still learning, still creating and still finding new ways to make a perfectly respectable idea just a little bit ridiculous.
Thank you to everyone who's been part of Bombshell's story so far.
And if you're only just discovering us, welcome.
Make yourself comfortable.
Things are about to get interesting.
Same Bombshell. New knickers.
